Volunteer
Our volunteers are the muscle of our program, committed to providing challenging and engaging training around the country. Whether you can make a monthly commitment of 30 hours or two hours, you will make a difference in the lives of young people. Thank you to our current officers!
Nationally 3,250 volunteers dedicate over 278,000 hours of their time every year! Our adults guide our cadets towards a future filled with adventure, leadership, teamwork, knowledge, and friendship. Join us on our mission to build leaders of character.
A volunteer must possess good moral character, a sound mind, and be capable of credibly communicating our Sea Cadet core values to our cadets. Each adult must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, free of felony convictions, and will undergo a background investigation during the enrolment process.

How Can I Volunteer?
Volunteer Online Application Process
Once your child has completed INDOC and Recruit Training you may begin the application process to become an adult volunteer.
Primary Parent Application to Become a Volunteer
If you are the parent that currently has a Quarterdeck account and are designated as the “PrimaryParent” for the cadet, the following steps should be completed to apply as a volunteer:
1. Parents with existing accounts can select the “Become A Volunteer” icon on your Quarterdeck account. This will open up the volunteer application. The parent should complete and submit the application.
2. Mason Division’s Commanding Officer will schedule an interview with the parent. If the CO approves the application, the next step is to make the registration payment.
3. Payment ($45.00) should be made through their application portal.
4. After payment:
● A background check will be initiated Sea Cadet National Headquarters.
● After the background check is complete, the prospective volunteer will gain access to Polaris and must successfully complete Darkness 2 Light (D2L) and Officer Midshipman Study Guide (OMSG).
5. Once the above requirements are completed, Mason Division will upload a face ID photo (for a new member ID card).
New Non-Primary Parent/Adult Application to become a Volunteer
1. Mason Division Commanding Officer will send the prospective volunteer an email invitation link from Magellan.
● The email will provide the prospective volunteer with a temporary username and password and ask them to complete the adult volunteer application online.
● The username and password are only valid for two weeks. If the username and password expire, the Commanding Officer must send the prospective volunteer a new invitation.
2. Once the prospective volunteer completes the application online, including all references, the application will be returned to Mason Division via Magellan.
3. The prospective volunteer will then make a registration payment ($45.00) through their application portal.
